St. Vincent
Under the name St. Vincent, Annie Clark has developed since the mid-2000s a project positioned between art rock, experimental pop and indie rock, where angular guitars, sophisticated arrangements and often ironic songwriting play a central role. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised in the Dallas area, St. Vincent first passed through The Polyphonic Spree and then accompanied Sufjan Stevens before launching her solo career with Marry Me in 2007. Actor (2009) broadened her palette with denser orchestration, while Strange Mercy (2011) accentuated the contrast between pop melodies, electric tension and more abrasive atmospheres. St. Vincent continued this evolution with St. Vincent in 2014 and Masseduction in 2017, where the approach became more direct, more synthetic and more marked by electronic pop. In parallel, Annie Clark collaborated with David Byrne on Love This Giant in 2012. Daddy’s Home (2021) explored references to 1970s rock and soul, before All Born Screaming (2024) brought St. Vincent back to a more nervous sound, blending industrial rock, electronic textures and a more frontal production.
