Sara Bareilles
Born in Eureka, California, Sara Bareilles first developed her songwriting in Los Angeles after studying at UCLA, performing in bars and small venues before self-releasing Careful Confessions in 2004. Her repertoire is pop built around the piano, with elements of pop rock, soul and American-style songwriting, supported by a supple voice and lyrics focused on relationships, doubt and self-assertion. Sara Bareilles broadened her audience with Little Voice in 2007, then continued with Kaleidoscope Heart in 2010 and The Blessed Unrest in 2013, where her approach became more expansive without abandoning the song format. Over the years she has moved between the pop stage and musical theatre, collaborated with artists such as Ingrid Michaelson, Ben Folds, Carole King and Jason Mraz, and wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Waitress, which premiered in 2015; she also released What's Inside: Songs from Waitress that year. The next phase of her career mixes albums and stage projects, including Amidst the Chaos in 2019, roles on Broadway—most notably in Waitress and Into the Woods—and steady television work, from Little Voice to the series Girls5eva.
