Matt Nathanson
San Francisco–based American singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson has, since the early 1990s, cultivated a songwriting style at the crossroads of folk-rock, acoustic pop, and intimate balladry. Born in 1973 in Lexington, Massachusetts, Nathanson first made his mark on the independent scene with self-released albums before reaching a broader audience in the early 2000s. His discography foregrounds voice and acoustic guitar, with lyrics focused on relationships, doubt, and everyday life, showcased on releases such as Please (1993), Beneath These Fireworks (2003), Some Mad Hope (2007), and Boston Accent (2022). Alternating studio recordings with albums and EPs devoted to covers of rock and pop classics, Nathanson maintains a steady connection to live performance, moving between solo acoustic shows and full-band tours. Over the years, he has shared the bill with a range of American pop and rock figures, securing his place in the landscape of contemporary English-language singer-songwriters.
