Ingrid Michaelson

Born in New York and linked to the Staten Island scene, Ingrid Michaelson has since the mid-2000s developed a singer-songwriter writing rooted in folk-pop and indie pop, with touches of indie folk, orchestral pop and sometimes traditional pop. After a self-produced debut album, Slow the Rain, in 2005, Ingrid Michaelson established herself in the indie circuit with Girls and Boys in 2006, driven by short, melodic, intimate songs where piano, guitar and a clear voice occupy a central place. The remainder of her career shows an aesthetic that broadens without breaking with this acoustic core, from Be OK in 2008 to Everybody in 2009, then Human Again in 2012 and Lights Out in 2014, where her writing gains pop breadth. Ingrid Michaelson also works in collaboration with other writers and performers, notably Sara Bareilles on 'Winter Song', and co-writes for other artists alongside her solo career. It Doesn’t Have to Make Sense was released in 2016, followed by the EP Alter Egos in 2017, Songs for the Season in 2018, Stranger Songs in 2019 and For the Dreamers in 2024. Present as much on stage in a group setting as in more narrative contexts, Ingrid Michaelson has also composed for film and signed the songs for the musical The Notebook, created in Chicago in 2022 and then mounted on Broadway in 2024.
