Train

Formed in San Francisco in 1993, Train initially developed a melodic rock sound steeped in folk and classic rock before gradually shifting toward more radio-friendly pop rock. Centered around singer Pat Monahan, the American band took shape in the 1990s, played extensively across West Coast venues, and released a self-titled debut in 1998 that established Train on the mainstream rock scene. The release of Drops of Jupiter in 2001 further raised their profile, featuring strongly narrative songs and arrangements blending guitars, piano, and a string section. Across My Private Nation (2003), For Me, It’s You (2006), and Save Me, San Francisco (2009), Train refined a style where pop hooks, mid-tempo ballads, and soul or country influences coexist, driven by songwriting focused on relationships and American urban landscapes. Subsequent records—from California 37 (2012) to A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat (2017) and AM Gold (2022)—confirmed this move toward modern pop with more electronic textures while retaining a rock foundation. Regularly touring North America and Europe, Train remains associated with the mainstream pop-rock scene, alternating studio releases, cover projects, and occasional collaborations with other artists.
