Simina Grigoriu
Born in Bucharest in 1981 and passing through Toronto after her family’s exile from Romania, Simina Grigoriu has developed a career between North America and Berlin, where she settled in 2008. Initially drawn to rap during her schooling, she later turned to electronic music and built an identity centered on restrained, tense techno, threaded with elements of minimal, electronica and downbeat. Grigoriu began releasing music around 2010 with EPs such as Mukluks & Ponytails (2010), followed by Nebuna Stricata and Project Boondocks Part 1–3 (2011), before issuing the album Exit City in 2012 on Susumu Records. Embedded in the Berlin scene, she performs in clubs and at festivals while developing production work marked by precise tempo, direct structures, dry textures and understated melodic lines. Her path has also crossed with artists like Imerio Vitti and Ludovic Wendi on several releases. In 2010 she supported Paul Kalkbrenner on the Berlin Calling tour, an important milestone in expanding her live visibility.
