Thomas Schumacher
Born in Bremen in 1972 and based in Berlin, Thomas Schumacher has developed since the early 1990s a career focused on techno and club-oriented forms of electronic music. He first appeared with Ilker Yilmaz as part of NIP Collective, active from 1993, before pursuing a solo career and releasing under the name Elektrochemie LK. A demo sent to the British label Bush led to the release of 'Ficken No. 3' in 1997, followed by 'When I Rock', reworked in 1998 by Simon Begg — two tracks widely played in clubs in the late 1990s. His first album, Electric Ballroom, was released in 1998 on Bush Records; Gold followed in 2001 with Elektrochemie LK, and Home in 2006 under his own name. Thomas Schumacher also developed his label activity with Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten, a platform that has released productions by Clemens Neufeld, Umek and Adam Beyer. His music belongs to a direct, tense strain of techno, built on tight rhythmic loops, incisive synthetic motifs and regular use of vocal elements. In parallel, Thomas Schumacher has produced remixes for Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Monika Kruse, Afrika Bambaataa and Chicks on Speed, and, together with Jens Mahlstedt and Ilker Yilmaz, contributed to the music for a production of Hamlet at the Schauspielhaus Bonn.
