Rex the Dog

Under the name Rex the Dog, British producer Jake Williams — who was active in 1990s dance under the alias JX — has developed since the early 2000s an electronic project at the crossroads of electro, synth-pop, melodic techno and Italo disco. Rex the Dog emerged in the UK with a series of maxi singles released on Southern Fried, before moving closer to the German Kompakt scene, where the album The Rex the Dog Show was issued in 2008. His repertoire blends club structures, short synthetic motifs, taut basslines and vocal melodies often treated in a dry manner, in an aesthetic that links dance culture, new wave and electro-pop. Over his career Rex the Dog alternates between original productions and remixes for pop and electronic artists, while maintaining a steady presence with DJ sets and live performances on club and festival stages across Europe. Increasingly focused on direct, rhythmic formats over the years, he retains a precise, dancefloor-oriented writing without abandoning a strong melodic dimension.
