Supergrass

Formed in Oxford in 1993 around Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey, later officially joined by Rob Coombes on keyboards in 2002 after several years of on-stage and in-studio presence, Supergrass initially rode the Britpop wave while maintaining a broader rock core—bridging punk energy, British pop melodies and alternative rock. The band broke through with the single 'Caught by the Fuzz' in 1994, then established itself with I Should Coco in 1995, followed by In It for the Money in 1997, two records that already charted a move from tense, direct rock toward more crafted songwriting. Supergrass continued this evolution with Supergrass (1999), Life on Other Planets (2002), Road to Rouen (2005) and Diamond Hoo Ha (2008), pushing their sound toward denser arrangements, occasionally more restrained tempos, and a palette that encompassed psychedelic pop as well as glam rock and more melancholic shades. A fixture on large UK and European stages, the band split in 2010 after leaving a seventh album unfinished, then reformed in 2019 for a series of concerts. The band remains associated with concise writing, tightly constructed choruses and a collective playing style that fuses immediate impact with a taste for tonal variation from one album to the next.
