Nails
Formed in Oxnard, California, Nails has since the late 2000s inhabited a very tense crossroads between hardcore punk, grindcore, powerviolence and crust punk, with short, heavy tracks and a writing style that also borrows from death metal and the d-beat. The band was launched by Todd Jones, who had been with Terror and Carry On, initially with John Gianelli and then with drummer Taylor Young, in a setting marked as much by the Southern California hardcore scene as by more extreme references. After the Obscene Humanity EP in 2009, Nails released Unsilent Death in 2010, then Abandon All Life in 2013 and You Will Never Be One of Us in 2016, three albums that establish a compact, highly abrasive format, where tempo changes and brutal accelerations remain central. Along the way, Nails also share a split with Full of Hell in 2016 and release the EP I Don’t Want to Know You in 2019. The band's trajectory then enters a more unstable phase, with several departures before a reformation around Todd Jones. In 2024, Nails returns with a new lineup bringing together Shelby Lermo, Andrew Solis and Carlos Cruz, and releases Every Bridge Burning, continuing this dry, dense and frontal approach that places Nails at the crossroads of the most violent hardcore and the fastest forms of punk metal.
