Wormrot
Formed in Singapore in 2007 by Arif Suhaimi, Rasyid Juraimi and Fitri Hamid after their national service, Wormrot established itself in a very direct grindcore style, based on short tracks, extreme tempos and a crossing between punk violence, thrash accelerations and textures that sometimes borrow from death metal and hardcore. The trio first releases Abuse in 2009, then signs with Earache, which reissues the album in 2010 and accompanies its opening toward European and North American stages. Wormrot follows with Dirge in 2011, then with the Noise EP the same year, before a touring pause in the early 2010s. The band resumes live activity in 2013 and revises its lineup, notably on drums, before returning with Voices in 2016, an album where its writing gains density and contrasts without abandoning the urgency inherent to grindcore. Present in DIY circuits as well as metal and punk festivals internationally, Wormrot tours Europe, the United States and Asia, and becomes in 2017 the first Singaporean band programmed at Glastonbury. Hiss, released in 2022, marks a new step with a broader sound and compositions that give more room to rhythm ruptures and dissonant moods. After Arif's departure in 2022 and a period of concerts with Gabriel Dubko on vocals, Wormrot announced in 2024 the return of its classic lineup around Arif, Rasyid and Fitri.
