Om Unit

Under the name Om Unit, Jim Coles has been developing a trajectory rooted in British electronic music since the late 2000s, dividing his time between London, where he’s from, and Bristol, where he settled. Previously active as 2Tall in a register closer to turntablism and hip‑hop, he evolved his practice toward a synthesis of bass music, dubstep, jungle, drum and bass and ambient textures, with a marked taste for broken rhythms and deep bass. The first EPs released as Om Unit in the early 2010s, followed by Threads in 2013 on Civil Music, established the foundations of a mobile aesthetic influenced both by beatmaking and the UK club scenes. Om Unit also launched his own label, Cosmic Bridge, which has supported a significant portion of his discography and collaborations. He appears notably alongside Machinedrum in the Dream Continuum project on Planet Mu, with Sam Binga and as part of the Richie Brains collective around Exit Records. With Inversion in 2014 on Metalheadz, then Self (2017), Violet (2019), Acid Dub Studies (2021), Acid Dub Studies II (2022) and Fragments (2024), Om Unit has continued to move between reworked jungle, meditative dub and soundsystem-oriented electronic music.
