Deadbeat

Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Scott Monteith developed the Deadbeat project between Montreal and Berlin, where he settled in 2006 after several years on Montreal's electronic scene. Deadbeat's music sits at the crossroads of electronica, dub techno, minimal and ambient, characterized by a taste for slow rhythms, deep bass and spacious textures, sometimes imbuing a political dimension. Deadbeat released Primordia in 2001 and Wild Life Documentaries in 2002, before forming the duo Crackhaus with Steve Beaupré. In the early 2000s Deadbeat notably appeared at Mutek and Sonar, important milestones in his live career. These were followed by Something Borrowed, Something Blue (2004) and New World Observer (2005) on Pole's ~scape label, with Athésia contributing to several tracks. Based in Berlin, Deadbeat maintained a steady discography with Journeyman’s Annual (2007), Roots And Wire (2008), Drawn And Quartered (2011), Eight (2012), Walls And Dimensions (2015) and Wax Poetic For This Our Great Resolve (2018). Alongside his solo work, Deadbeat collaborated with Fatima Camara on Trinity Thirty, released in 2019, a complete reinterpretation of Cowboy Junkies' The Trinity Session.
