Mclusky
Formed in Cardiff, Wales in the late 1990s, Mclusky belongs to a strain of noise rock and post-hardcore powered by a pronounced sense of irony and laconic lyrics. The trio, built around singer-guitarist Andrew Falkous and bassist Jon Chapple, gradually carved out its identity on the British independent scene, blending abrasive guitars, taut rhythms, and a tense vocal delivery. Their debut album, My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours, appeared in 2000 and laid the groundwork for a raw, in-your-face sound. Mclusky refined this approach with Mclusky Do Dallas in 2002 and The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire in 2004, both recorded with Steve Albini, which heightened the contrast between sonic aggression and world-weary humor. After disbanding in 2005, Mclusky’s members scattered to other projects, while the group maintained lasting visibility through reissues and compilations. From the mid-2010s onward, Andrew Falkous has regularly revived Mclusky on stage under the name mclusky*, revisiting a repertoire that left its mark on noise rock and indie circuits across the UK, Europe, and North America.
