My Chemical Romance

Formed in 2001 in Newark, New Jersey, My Chemical Romance brought together Gerard Way (vocals), Ray Toro (guitar), Mikey Way (bass) and Frank Iero (guitar) around an alternative rock sound influenced by punk, emo and post-hardcore. The band first recorded the album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002 for the independent label Eyeball Records, before signing to Reprise Records and releasing Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004, which pairs melodic choruses with a dark visual aesthetic. With The Black Parade in 2006, produced by Rob Cavallo, My Chemical Romance crafted a concept album with theatrical staging, then moved toward a more colorful, power-pop and electronic-rock-oriented sound on Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in 2010. After announcing a split in 2013 and issuing a retrospective compilation in 2014, the band reformed in 2019 and resumed international touring, maintaining an identity centered on fast-paced compositions, fictional narratives and a strong visual dimension, up to the single “The Foundations of Decay” released in 2022.
