Matias Aguayo
Between Santiago de Chile and Cologne, Matias Aguayo has developed a career that sits at the intersection of house, minimal techno and Latin American popular music. Having arrived in Germany as a child, he became involved in Cologne’s scene in the 1990s and gained wider attention in the early 2000s as one half of the duo Closer Musik; their album “After Love” was released in 2002 on Kompakt. As a solo artist he continued to release on the same label, including “Are You Really Lost” (2005) and “Ay Ay Ay” (2009), where vocals, repetitive rhythms and club structures intertwine in an aesthetic that is both minimal and intensely physical. Later based between Berlin and other European cities, Aguayo expanded his DJ and live touring, collaborated with various producers from Latin America’s electronic scenes and founded the label Cómeme, conceived as a transnational network connecting clubs, collectives and producers. The albums “The Visitor” (2013) and “Support Alien Invasion” (2019) extend this approach by blending dancefloor pulses, street-music influences, chant-like vocal delivery and fragmented rhythmic constructions, positioning Matias Aguayo within an electronic landscape where performativity and vocal work are central.
