Kaytranada

Montreal‑based producer and DJ Kaytranada has been shaping a hybrid sound at the intersection of house, hip‑hop and electronic R&B since the early 2010s. Born Louis Kevin Celestin in Port‑au‑Prince in 1992 and raised in Canada from childhood, he first attracted attention under the name Kaytradamus with a string of mixtapes and remixes released online, then gradually established himself on North American and European club scenes. His debut studio album, 99.9%, released in 2016, showcased a flexible rhythmic aesthetic fed by funk, soul and rap, featuring numerous guest vocalists from the alternative and independent scenes. With Bubba (2019) Kaytranada moved toward a more vocal, sensual house — a project that earned him recognition at the Grammy Awards in 2021 — while continuing to produce tracks for other artists and to craft remixes for English‑ and French‑language singers and rappers. At the same time he and his brother Lou Phelps formed the rap‑leaning duo The Celestics and maintained international collaborations, notably the 2023 album KAYTRAMINÉ with rapper Aminé. The release of Timeless in 2024 confirmed Kaytranada’s place among a network of electronic producers navigating club culture, Afro‑Caribbean heritage and contemporary hip‑hop aesthetics.
