Krewella
Born in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Illinois, Krewella first formed as a trio in 2007 around sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and producer Kris Trindl, before becoming a duo in 2014. The project sits in an EDM aesthetic at the crossroads of dance-pop, dance-rock and bass music, with tracks that blend very prominent vocals, pop choruses, electronic builds and influences ranging from dubstep to trap, including drum and bass and progressive house. Krewella emerged in the early 2010s with the EP Play Hard in 2012, led by the track 'Alive', then confirmed this phase with the album Get Wet in 2013. After Trindl's departure, Jahan and Yasmine redirected Krewella toward a more personal formula, sometimes accompanied by a live band on stage, as on the Ammunition EP in 2016 and New World Pt. 1 in 2017. Over the years, Krewella has collaborated in the international electronic scene, while appearing at major festivals and developing a more hybrid sound, between pop songwriting and club production. This evolution is reflected on zer0 in 2020, then on The Body Never Lies in 2022, where Krewella emphasizes a more introspective vein without leaving the realm of electronic music.
