Valley of the Sun

Formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2010, Valley of the Sun evolves at the crossroads of stoner rock, hard rock, grunge, and a heavy rock tinged with psychedelic blues. The American trio first drew notice with a string of self-produced EPs in the early 2010s, before shaping their discography around albums with a dense sound, propelled by massive riffs, a very prominent bass, and vocals with soulful inflections that highlight the heritage of 1990s alternative rock. Valley of the Sun develops a direct writing style, centered on groove and tension, with tracks that blend abrasive energy, fuzz-laden choruses, and more airy passages. After the 2014 album Electric Talons of the Thunderhawk, the band released Volume Rock in 2015, then Old Gods in 2019, released on Fuzzorama Records. Through these releases, Valley of the Sun has evolved its formula toward a more nuanced register, without leaving its foundation of heavy and melodic rock. Present on the underground rock and metal scenes in the United States and Europe, Valley of the Sun sits in an American tradition where power, melodic hooks, and psychedelic textures meet.
