Little Barrie
Formed in England in the late 1990s around guitarist and singer Barrie Cadogan, Little Barrie blends garage rock, psychedelic rock, rhythm and blues, funk and soul in a format long conceived for a trio, featuring tight grooves, restrained vocals and sharply defined guitar work. Little Barrie first released several singles on Stark Reality before following up with the albums We Are Little Barrie (2005), Stand Your Ground (2006), King of the Waves (2011) and Shadow (2015) — four records that evolve the band from a dry, direct rock to a looser songwriting approach threaded with blues and soul textures. For years composed of Barrie Cadogan, Lewis Wharton and Virgil Howe, Little Barrie suspended activity after Howe’s death in 2017. Cadogan and Wharton later revived the project with Malcolm Catto as Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto for Quatermass Seven (2020) and Electric War (2025). Little Barrie returned to its original name with Gravity Freeze (2024), recorded north of London, continuing a dialogue between British rock and rougher American references.
