Ty Segall
Born in 1987 in Laguna Beach, California, Ty Segall established himself on the American garage rock scene in the late 2000s from the San Francisco Bay area, after starting out in several local bands. Initially aligned with garage punk and lo‑fi, he released his self‑titled debut in 2008, followed by Lemons (2009) and Melted (2010), which cemented a sound combining distorted guitars, punk energy and pop melodies. With Goodbye Bread (2011) and Twins (2012) he broadened his songwriting toward more structured psychedelic rock, before exploring a more intimate vein on Sleeper (2013). Manipulator (2014) and Emotional Mugger (2016) mark a denser, more experimental period—between glam rock, heavy riffs and distorted keyboards—while Freedom’s Goblin (2018) and First Taste (2019) emphasize work with textures, brass and dynamic shifts. After settling in Los Angeles, Ty Segall continued these format variations with Harmonizer (2021), Hello, Hi (2022) and Three Bells (2024). Alongside his solo albums he remains active in collective projects such as Fuzz and GØGGS, maintains a steady live presence and has developed a body of work where acoustic ballads, psych rock and more frontal fuzz assaults coexist.
