JVG

Formed in Helsinki in 2009, JVG brings together Jare Brand and VilleGalle, initially under the name Jare & VilleGalle, around Finnish-language rap that blends hip-hop, pop and sung choruses in a direct, urban aesthetic closely tied to everyday references and sports vocabulary. The duo emerged in the early 2010s with tracks released online, then achieved broader recognition in 2011 with the song "Häissä" and their first album, Mustaa kultaa (2011). JVG followed with Jvg.fi (2012) and moved to a larger scale by adopting a more melodic, festive and accessible approach while remaining within the rap framework. In 2012 Jare Brand and VilleGalle also co-founded PME Records, an important entity in their career. Subsequent releases show this shift toward an increasingly hybrid sound between hip-hop, pop and electronic productions, including Voitolla yöhön (2014), 247365 (2015), Popkorni (2017) and Rata/Raitti (2019). On stage and in the studio, JVG has moved between mainstream Finnish rap and more pop-oriented contexts, collaborating notably with Anna Abreu, Teemu Brunila and Ellinoora, while keeping lyrics rooted in Helsinki and the Finnish language.
