Mikael Gabriel
Born in Helsinki, Mikael Gabriel, whose real name is Mikael Kristian Gabriel Sohlman, has established himself in the Finnish scene with Finnish-language rap that blends hip-hop, pop and melodic refrains. Active since the late 2000s, he made his recording debut with 5 miljoonaa muuta in 2009, before broadening his audience with Pohjosen poika in 2011 and then Mun maailma in 2013. His writing alternates between introspective tracks, more direct songs and formats designed for live performance, in an accessible register that brings together contemporary rap, urban pop production and more emotional tonalities. Mikael Gabriel has also pursued numerous collaborations in Finnish rap and pop, including Diandra, Isac Elliot, JVG, Vesa-Matti Loiri and Estonian rapper Nublu, with whom he presented Vox populi for the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu in 2024. His discography also includes Versus (2015), Ääripäät (2018), Elonmerkki (2021) and Big Steppa (2022). Parallel to music, Mikael Gabriel has appeared on several Finnish television programs and pursued acting in cinema, notably in Pahan kukat and Bodom, extending a career built between mainstream rap, local pop culture, and regular presence on Finnish stages and media.
