I:Cube
Born in Paris in 1974, Nicolas Chaix, known as I:Cube, developed an electronic approach that emerged in the mid-1990s in the wake of French house, with a strong taste for intersections between deep house, disco, trance and more psychedelic textures. Loyal to the Versatile label, I:Cube attracted attention as early as 1996 with the maxi Disco Cubizm, later associated with a Daft Punk remix, and continued this aesthetic on the albums Picnic Attack (1997) and Adore (2000), where club-oriented tracks sit alongside more abstract and melodic passages. At the same time, Nicolas Chaix formed Chateau Flight with Gilbert Cohen, a duo oriented toward a freer, narrative electronic style, documented notably by Puzzle (2000), The Meal (2004) and the soundtrack to Les Vampires (2006), which was also performed on stage. I:Cube then pursued a path of personal productions, remixes and occasional projects, including Tête with Frank Wiedemann, before returning to the long format with M Megamix (2012), an album made up of tracks strung together in a continuous mix. With I:Cube, house groove remains central, though it is often shifted toward oblique, slow or atmospheric forms.
