La Caravane Passe

Born in the eastern part of Paris at the turn of the 2000s, La Caravane Passe brings together around Toma Feterman a core of musicians including Olivier Llugany, Cyril Moret, Ben Body and Pat Gigon. The group develops a repertoire at the crossroads of Balkan music, rock, hip hop, gypsy jazz and various Romani and nomadic traditions, with an amplified brass-band approach where horns, woodwinds, bass and drums accompany lyrics sung in French and other languages. La Caravane Passe first made a name on stage and through a festive universe nourished by references from Eastern Europe, before releasing Go to Plèchti! in 2004 and Velkom Plèchti! in 2007. Over the albums, the band broadens its palette with Ahora in da futur in 2010, Gypsy for One Day in 2012, Canis Carmina in 2016 and Nomadic Spirit in 2020, where urban energy, nomadic accents and forms more directly in the chanson tradition mingle. The band’s path has also been shaped by collaborations with Rachid Taha, Sanseverino, Erika Serre or Marko Marković, as well as a parallel stage project, Le Vrai Faux Mariage de La Caravane Passe. In 2023, La Caravane Passe marks its twenty-year anniversary with Hôtel Karavan, an album of reinterpretations and duets that traces the evolution of a group still attached to mixing styles and to a highly stage-focused practice.
