Karpatt
Born in 1994 around Frédéric Rollat, after his stint as guitarist and backing vocalist in Yan et les Abeilles, Karpatt gradually settled as a trio with Gaétan Lerat on guitar and Hervé Jegousso on double bass. The French band develops an acoustic song approach where swing, gypsy jazz, Latin touches, world music and French songwriting intersect, with a marked taste for flexible arrangements and collective playing. Karpatt recorded À l’ombre du ficus in 2002, then Dans le caillou in 2004 and Dans d’beaux draps in 2006 — three records that established this aesthetic between strings, traveling rhythms and stage spirit. With Montreuil in 2009, Karpatt moved its repertoire toward a more electric colour, continued on the live album À droite à gauche in 2010. Sur le quai appeared in 2011 in a tightened trio format, with contributions from Jehan Jonas, Christian Olivier and Nicolas Jules. After Valparaiso in 2019, Karpatt released En escale in 2023. Throughout their tours, Karpatt has played numerous festivals and venues in France and also performed internationally, in a register that remains committed to the immediacy of live performance and to the movement between chanson, swing and popular rhythms.
