Kyo
Formed in the mid-1990s in the Yvelines by Benoît Poher, Fabien Dubos, Nicolas Chassagne and Florian Dubos, Kyo belongs to the francophone pop-rock wave that blends alternative rock heritage with song-oriented structures. Spotted at the end of their teens after early local concerts, the band released a self-titled debut in 2000, marked by a melodic rock sound still close to their youthful influences. National recognition came with Le chemin in 2003, followed by 300 Lésions in 2004, where the lyrics took on a more introspective tone against a backdrop of melodic guitars and pop-leaning arrangements. After a hiatus from the second half of the 2000s—during which several members wrote for other artists and pursued side projects such as Empyr—Kyo resumed studio work and touring with L’Équilibre in 2014, then Dans la peau in 2017 and La part des lions in 2021. The lineup, now centered on a core of three original members after Fabien Dubos’s departure, continues to develop a style built around French-sung choruses, a balance between ballads and more electric tracks, and lyrics focused on intimate relationships and coming of age.
