Charlotte Cornfield
Born in Toronto in 1988, Charlotte Cornfield first develops her musical practice between piano, drums, and writing before settling in Montreal, where she studies jazz drums at Concordia University and begins performing live. Her career is rooted in a folk and folk‑rock vein with indie contours, featuring precise, often conversational writing, carried by sparse arrangements where guitars, a flexible groove, and melodies without pomp intersect. After the EPs It’s Like That Here (2008) and Collage Light (2009), Charlotte Cornfield releases the album Two Horses in 2011, followed by Future Snowbird in 2016, recorded live in the studio and marked by a more front‑facing approach. After a spell living in Brooklyn before returning to Canada, she evolves her format toward airier songs on The Shape of Your Name (2019), notably surrounded by musicians tied to Broken Social Scene and by Shawn Everett. She follows with the EP In My Corner (2020), then Highs in the Minuses (2021), where her folk rock becomes more nuanced and mobile. On Could Have Done Anything (2023), Cornfield tightens her writing around everyday scenes, fine observations, and a measured vocal. She has also collaborated with Joel Plaskett and shared stage affinities with musicians from Suuns, Stars, Ought or Tegan and Sara.
