Kalabrese

Under the name Kalabrese, Swiss musician and producer Sacha Winkler has established himself on Zurich’s scene at the intersection of house, disco, funk and a deliberately offbeat electronic pop. A DJ, composer and long-time affiliate of the club Zukunft, Kalabrese has been developing since the 2000s a personal universe that is more relaxed and song-oriented than strictly club-focused, where danceable rhythms sit alongside organic arrangements and songwriting. This approach took a distinct shape with the album Rumpelzirkus, and later with Independent Dancer in 2013, a record that further refined this blend of non-linear groove, guest vocals and luminous textures. Kalabrese also works with the Rumpelorchester, a collective format that extends on stage and in the studio his taste for shifting ensembles and the crossings between electronics, funk and gentle psychedelia. A familiar figure on alternative Swiss and European scenes, Kalabrese has built a trajectory linking DJ culture, leftfield production and a spirit of collective collaboration without confining himself to a single register.
