Jessie J
Born in London in 1988 as Jessica Ellen Cornish, Jessie J came to prominence in the early 2010s on the British pop scene after several years spent writing for other performers and training at the BRIT School. Her debut single, Do It Like a Dude (2010), established a sound world blending pop, R&B and an urban aesthetic, followed in 2011 by Price Tag with rapper B.o.B, which introduced Jessie J to an international audience. Her first album, Who You Are (2011), brought together soul ballads, energetic pop tracks and dance influences—a palette extended on Alive (2013) and then Sweet Talker (2014), notably marked by Bang Bang in collaboration with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Jessie J has cultivated an expressive vocal style rooted in contemporary R&B, with gospel-tinged inflections and songwriting focused on self-assertion and direct emotion. After these early studio records, the artist explored a more segmented format with the 2018 project R.O.S.E., released in multiple parts, and in the same year recorded the Christmas covers album This Christmas Day. Alongside her releases, Jessie J has been a regular presence on television as a coach on singing competition shows in the United Kingdom, Australia and China, helping to establish her both as a live performer and a familiar face in mainstream formats.
