Jake Bugg

Born in Nottingham and raised in the Clifton district, Jake Bugg established himself in the early 2010s with a direct writing style that blends indie rock, indie folk, Americana and blues rock, in a format centered on the voice, guitar and restrained melodies. Discovered after a performance on Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing stage in 2011, Bugg quickly followed with his debut album, Jake Bugg, released in 2012, then Shangri La in 2013, recorded with Rick Rubin and enriched by songwriting collaborations with Iain Archer. His repertoire draws from both British and American folk traditions as well as a dry, nervy rock, with stripped-down acoustic tracks as well as more tense and electric songs. Over the years, Bugg has evolved this framework without abandoning his identity as a songwriter, notably signing On My One in 2016, largely self-produced, then Hearts That Strain in 2017, more acoustic in tone, produced by Dan Auerbach. Saturday Night, Sunday Morning in 2021 opens further toward pop writing, before A Modern Day Distraction in 2024, where Bugg returns to a more upfront guitar sound. Used to large stages and festivals in the UK as well as internationally, Bugg has also shared the bill with artists like Noel Gallagher and more recently joined the Liam Gallagher and John Squire tour in 2024.
