Green Velvet
Behind Green Velvet is Curtis Jones, a Chicago-born producer, DJ and singer whose career has been part of the local house story since the early 1990s. Initially active under the name Cajmere — the alias with which he launched the labels Cajual Records and Relief Records — Curtis Jones developed a more frontline writing under the Green Velvet moniker, lying between house, techno and acid house, driven by dry rhythms, taut basslines and a voice halfway between speaking and singing, often used ironically or narratively. Green Velvet became a central figure in the mid-1990s with tracks like “Preacher Man”, “Flash”, “The Stalker” and “La La Land”, which circulated both in house clubs and on techno stages. His discography under this name includes Constant Chaos (1999), Whatever (2002), Walk in Love (2005) and Unshakable (2015). Present on international circuits while remaining tied to Chicago, Green Velvet has also multiplied projects and collaborations over the years, notably with artists from the contemporary house and tech-house scenes, without abandoning a direct, sometimes dark, but always dancefloor-focused aesthetic.
