Black Mountain
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Black Mountain formed in 2004 around Stephen McBean following the end of Jerk With a Bomb, originally featuring Amber Webber, Jeremy Schmidt, Joshua Wells and Matt Camirand. The band developed a dense psychedelic rock sound at the intersection of space rock, stoner rock, progressive rock and a more alternative streak, with songs often built on contrasts between heavy guitars, enveloping keyboards and alternating male and female vocals. Black Mountain released a self-titled debut in 2005, followed by In the Future (2008), Wilderness Heart (2010), IV (2016) and Destroyer (2019). Over the years the band has toured North America and Europe and is part of a Canadian scene whose members also lead other projects, notably Pink Mountaintops for Stephen McBean and Lightning Dust for Amber Webber and Jeremy Schmidt. This circulation among different lineups is reflected in the band's music, which ranges from a straightforward rock format to longer, more cosmic or melodic compositions, while retaining a marked psychedelic core.
