Nyra

Born in Sheffield, Nyra developed an early and close relationship with music, shaped by his grandfather’s 1980s records and a local scene influenced equally by club culture and British electronic music. His sound blends house, electro and deep techno with more melodic traces from new wave, soul, disco and funk; his productions are club-oriented but attentive to texture and groove. As a teenager Nyra trained first as a DJ before moving into production, becoming part of Sheffield’s underground scene. In 2008 he launched the Downlo night at Dan Sane, an event that hosted artists such as Ben UFO, Steffi, Baby Ford and Luke Solomon, and helped raise the profile of a new generation of venues and parties in the city. After a spell in professional cycling, Nyra relocated to London to pursue his musical career. He released tracks on Secretsundaze and Elastic Dreams and went on to found his own label, Canoe, a direct extension of his work as a producer and his vision of a supple, rhythmic electronic music rooted in dance culture.
