Fujiya & Miyagi

Formed in Brighton in 2000, Fujiya & Miyagi have since developed, from their beginnings, a music that sits between electronic, krautrock, dance and nu-disco, with a marked taste for repetitive rhythms, supple basslines and a voice that is often spoken or detached. Around David Best and Steve Lewis, the group has undergone several lineup changes while maintaining an immediately recognizable identity, based on minimalist, metronomic and ironic tracks, where synthetic textures cross the heritage of post-punk and experimental pop. After Electro Karaoke in the Negative Style in 2002, Fujiya & Miyagi drew more attention with Transparent Things in 2006 and then Lightbulbs in 2008, before continuing with Ventriloquizzing in 2011 and Artificial Sweeteners in 2014. The group later released Fujiya & Miyagi in 2017, Different Blades from the Same Pair of Scissors in the same year, Flashback in 2019 and Slight Variations in 2022. On stage, Fujiya & Miyagi performs both in indie circuits and in more electronic contexts, betting on rhythmic precision and a form of austerity that links motorik rock as much as dance-pop.
