Simian Mobile Disco

Formed in London in 2003 by James Ford and Jas Shaw, both members of the group Simian, Simian Mobile Disco initially developed as a DJ and producer duo before becoming a central project on the British electronic scene. Their music ranges between electro, house, techno, tech house and nu-disco, with a marked taste for repetitive structures, dry synthetic textures and a club approach that is often minimalist but physical. After several remixes for artists such as Klaxons, Air, Muse or The Go! Team, Simian Mobile Disco released their first album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, in 2007, followed by Temporary Pleasure in 2009, more open to vocals and collaborations, notably with Beth Ditto, Alexis Taylor, Gruff Rhys and Chris Keating. The duo then refocused their work toward more dancefloor-oriented forms with Delicacies in 2010 and Unpatterns in 2012, before exploring a more direct and performative format on Whorl in 2014, recorded from a live session. Welcome to Sideways appeared in 2016, followed by Murmurations in 2018, conceived with the Deep Throat Choir in a more choral and immersive vein. In parallel, James Ford runs a significant production activity, while Jas Shaw develops several solo projects. Simian Mobile Disco has been on hiatus since 2018.
