Daniel Romano

Rooted in the Canadian indie scene since the late 2000s, Daniel Romano hails from Welland, Ontario, where he developed a songwriting style that spans country, folk and psychedelic rock. Initially active as a member of the punk/indie band Attack in Black, Romano later turned to a solo career more strongly influenced by traditional country and Americana, with albums such as Workin' for the Music Man (2010), Sleep Beneath the Willow (2011), Come Cry With Me (2013), If I've Only One Time Askin' (2015) and Mosey (2016). From Modern Pressure (2017) and Finally Free (2018) onward, his musical world broadened toward denser rock, driven by retro arrangements, 1960s pop influences and frequently narrative lyrics. Surrounded by Daniel Romano's Outfit — a formation combining guitar-driven rock, electric folk and psychedelic touches — he released several records in the early 2020s, including How Ill Thy World Is Ordered (2020), Content to Point the Way (2021), Cobra Poems (2021) and La Luna (2022). Alongside his projects with The Outfit, Romano explores a grittier garage- and punk-oriented side with Ancient Shapes and continues to work regularly as a songwriter, producer and arranger within the North American independent rock scene.
