The Hanging Stars
Based in London, The Hanging Stars have been developing since the 2010s a repertoire that sits between folk-rock, psychedelic country and jangle pop, with a marked taste for twelve-string guitars, vocal harmonies and melodies with distinct outlines. Their songs circulate references to American rock of the 1960s and 1970s as well as to a certain strand of British indie pop, without tipping into heavy-handed quotation, and their aesthetic has gradually tightened around a more direct songwriting approach driven by collective playing and vocal work. This evolution is evident on Just A Day, their sixth album announced for 2025 on Loose, conceived after a lineup change at the end of 2024 and imagined in a leaner format focused on bass, drums, guitars and four-part harmonies. For the record, The Hanging Stars enlisted Gerard Love, who contributed to production, arrangements and backing vocals, while Sean Read handled engineering and co-production. Partially recorded at Clashnarrow, the band extends here an approach where dreamy ballads, guitar pop and Americana tones intersect.
