Cory Hanson
A California musician associated with the Los Angeles independent rock scene, Cory Hanson has, since the late 2000s, developed a career split between bands and personal projects. After beginnings under the alias White Horses in Technicolor Everywhere and stints alongside Together Pangea and Meatbodies, Cory Hanson founded Wand in 2013, a band in which he occupies a central role as songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist. With Wand he works in a psych-rock and garage register marked by dense guitars, shifting structures and a taste for textures that can be abrasive as well as melodic. At the same time, Cory Hanson has built a solo discography that moves this framework toward a more open mode of writing, where folk rock, country, orchestrated pop and a more classic American rock take greater prominence. His albums The Unborn Capitalist from Limbo (2016), Pale Horse Rider (2021), Western Cum (2023) and I Love People (2024) illustrate this evolution, between string arrangements, oblique ballads, electric energy and a highly crafted sense of composition. Cory Hanson also works as a producer and visual artist, extending an output that circulates between the rock stage, songwriting and more experimental forms.
