City and Colour
Behind City and Colour is Dallas Green, a singer-songwriter and musician born in St. Catharines, Ontario, who developed the project in the mid-2000s alongside the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. The name City and Colour literally combines his first and last names, and originally referred to a repertoire focused on acoustic folk and Americana, driven by restrained songwriting and a very distinctive tenor voice. With Sometimes (2005) and Bring Me Your Love (2008), City and Colour established itself in an intimate format, before gradually expanding toward a broader sound on Little Hell (2011) and The Hurry and the Harm (2013), where alternative rock, country and blues intersect. If I Should Go Before You (2015) emphasizes the band dimension and recordings made in near-live conditions, while A Pill for Loneliness (2019) and The Love Still Held Me Near (2023) continue this move toward denser arrangements. Over his career, City and Colour has also undertaken occasional collaborations, notably with Pink in the duo You+Me, while maintaining an identity marked by melodic compositions, a taste for slow tempos and a recurring tension between folk sparseness and rock surges.
