DJ Marky
Born in São Paulo in 1973 under the name Marco Antonio da Silva, DJ Marky trained in the city’s east-side clubs before establishing himself in the 1990s as one of the Brazilian names associated with the rise of jungle and drum and bass. Initially active under the name DJ Marky Mark, he developed a very fluid mixing style, centered on speed, precision and a selection that links the energy of British drum and bass to more Brazilian colors, up to the so-called drum and bossa. His career takes on an international dimension in the late 1990s with regular stints in London and lasting ties with the scene led by Bryan Gee and the Innerground label. DJ Marky also marked São Paulo’s nightlife through several residencies and parties, including Vibe, then Flavour and Influences, while continuing work as a producer. Among his discographic milestones are the albums In Rotation with XRS in 2004, Influences: Compiled & Mixed by DJ Marky in 2009, Fabriclive. 55 in 2011, My Heroes in 2015 and The Time Is Right in 2023. DJ Marky remains associated with a soft, very rhythmic drum and bass, open to crossings between bass music, soul, funk and Brazilian references.
