Nu:Tone

Under the name Nu:Tone, Dan Gresham has built a prominent presence in British drum and bass since the early 2000s, based in Cambridge, England, and closely linked to the Hospital Records label. His work falls within a melodic, precise strand of drum and bass—often associated with liquid funk—where fast breaks, smooth basslines and soul-, jazz- or ambient-tinged harmonies play as important a role as rhythmic impact. Nu:Tone first emerged on the Hospital scene alongside artists such as Logistics and went on to release a steady discography: Brave Nu World (2005), Back of Beyond (2007), Words and Pictures (2010), Future History (2011), Entrepreneur (2013) and Little Spaces (2016). Across these releases he has honed a more introspective writing style, with a marked taste for detailed arrangements, subtly integrated vocals and contrasts between club tension and hushed atmospheres. In parallel with his productions, Nu:Tone performs as a DJ on British and European drum and bass circuits, in a continuity consistent with Hospital Records’ aesthetic and a dancefloor approach that is more musical than confrontational.
