Total Science

In Oxford, Jason Greenhalgh and Paul Smith established Total Science at the turn of the late 1980s and early 1990s, amid the rise of the hardcore, jungle and later drum and bass scenes in the UK. Initially active as DJs, the two producers went on to develop a style built on fast breakbeats, solid basslines and a strong sense of groove, moving their music between atmospheric drum and bass, funk‑tinged rollers and more technical tracks. Over the course of their career, Total Science issued a substantial catalogue of singles, EPs and remixes, relying on CIA Records, the label co‑founded by the duo, which played a central role in their activities and collaborations with other UK producers. Longstanding fixtures in clubs and specialist events, Total Science retain an approach rooted in the jungle legacy while evolving their sound toward cleaner, more direct forms, without leaving the drum and bass terrain.
