Danny Byrd

Born in Bath in southwest England, Danny Byrd has developed since the late 1990s a drum and bass approach shaped by house, UK garage, R&B and the legacy of jungle. He was among the first artists signed to Hospital Records in 1999, releasing early maxis such as “Do It Again” and “Changes”, before gaining wider recognition through his remixes—particularly for London Elektricity and High Contrast—and receiving support from Fabio on BBC Radio 1 from 2000. His writing combines fast rhythms, clean basslines, vocal samples and clear nods to British rave sounds, often presented in a melodic and direct club format. After the compilation Medical History in 2007, Danny Byrd released the albums Supersized (2008), Rave Digger (2010), Golden Ticket (2013) and Atomic Funk (2018), which continue this aesthetic of breakbeats, vocal hooks and old-school references. Over the years he has collaborated with I-Kay, Liquid, Netsky, Brookes Brothers, General Levy, Roni Size and D Double E, while remaining active on the UK drum and bass scene through his productions, remixes and DJ work.
