Rikke Thomsen

In the Danish folk and country scene, Rikke Thomsen is rooted in the Sønderjylland region in southern Denmark, whose language and landscapes she places at the heart of her writing. A singer and songwriter, she builds a repertoire between acoustic folk, North American country influences and melodic pop, giving a central place to the sønderjysk dialect alongside standard Danish. Her career gained momentum in the late 2010s with the EP Omve’n hjemve, released in 2019, whose songs tell of attachment to the land, departures, returns and rural life through stories deeply rooted in southern Jutland. Since that record, Rikke Thomsen has released new material and performed on many stages across Denmark, solo with guitar or accompanied by a band, in a format close to the country-songwriter tradition. Her compositions are marked by simple forms, an attention to everyday imagery and the rhythm of spoken language, which gives her music a strongly local identity while remaining accessible to a wider audience beyond Sønderjylland.
