Anne Linnet
Born in Aarhus in 1953, Anne Linnet established herself on the Danish music scene in the 1970s with the female group Shit & Chanel, where she developed Danish‑language pop‑rock songwriting rooted in folk and chanson. At the same time she released the solo album 'Kvindesind' in 1978, a cycle of songs set to poems by Tove Ditlevsen that demonstrated her interest in setting literature to music. In the early 1980s she continued this trajectory with the Anne Linnet Band — alongside, among others, Sanne Salomonsen and Lis Sørensen — and founded the more new‑wave project Marquis de Sade, exploring synth‑pop sonorities and a rock with darker textures. The 1981 solo album 'Anne Linnet' confirmed an aesthetic centered on the voice, direct melodies and carefully worked pop arrangements, while 'Barndommens gade' (1986) extended her collaboration with Ditlevsen for film. Since then Anne Linnet’s career has alternated between records under her own name, collective projects and music for visual media, with a regular stage presence in Denmark. Her songs often address the intimate, romantic relationships, gender identities and social issues, anchoring her in a songwriting tradition where pop and rock serve both personal narrative and social commentary.
