De Staat
Launched in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, by Torre Florim in 2006, De Staat began as a songwriting project before taking shape as a band centered on taut, rhythmic and often confrontational alternative rock. De Staat’s music blends angular guitars, a prominent bass, pulses close to dance and post‑punk, a taste for repetitive motifs, chanted choruses and songwriting that draws as much from indie rock as from a more abrasive pop. After Wait for Evolution (2009), the band followed with Machinery (2011), I_CON (2013), O (2016) and Bubble Gum (2019), evolving toward more synthetic textures without abandoning a tight group dynamic. Led by Torre Florim alongside Rocco Hueting, Jop van Summeren and Tim van Delft, De Staat has been a fixture on European stages and festivals since their beginnings, with a repertoire in which groove, repetition and rhythmic tension are central.
