Lucky Fonz III

Singer-songwriter born in Nijmegen in 1981, Lucky Fonz III — real name Otto Wichers — has been developing since the mid-2000s a songwriting approach that moves between folk, pop and Dutch chanson. His early albums, recorded in English — Lucky Fonz III (2005), Life is short (2007) and A family like yours (2009) — sit in an acoustic indie-folk vein focused on intimate storytelling. From Hoe je honderd wordt zonder dat je het merkt (2010) he began to turn more toward Dutch, which rooted him more directly in the local scene while preserving a strong narrative dimension. Records such as In je nakie (2013), Hemellichamen (2016) and Multimens (2019) show an evolution toward a more expansive pop, where cabaret influences, touches of Americana and melodic choruses intersect, often carried by a tone that is both frank and slightly offbeat. Regularly featured in the Dutch media and on numerous club, festival and theatre stages, Lucky Fonz III has developed a concert format that blends songs, spoken asides and understated humor.
