J. Bernardt

Under the name J. Bernardt, Belgian musician Jinte Deprez has been developing a solo project since 2016, launched during a hiatus of Balthazar. He co-founded Balthazar in 2004 and within the band sings, plays guitar and contributes to production. As J. Bernardt he moves away from his main group's rock framework toward a looser songwriting approach at the intersection of indie pop, pop rock, R&B, soul, hip-hop and understated electronica. His first album, Running Days, was released in 2017 and established a sound centered on the voice, melodic textures and slow or broken rhythms, featuring Adriaan Van De Velde and drummer Klaas De Somer. After several years running alongside Balthazar, J. Bernardt returned in 2024 with Contigo, confirming a more introspective and hybrid approach to pop. Throughout this trajectory he has developed a distinct solo repertoire, created on the margins of his original band but linked to the same Belgian scene.
