The Washboard Union
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, The Washboard Union brings together Aaron Grain, Chris Duncombe and David Roberts as a vocal trio rooted in Canadian country, with touches of bluegrass, roots folk and a strong emphasis on harmonies. The project took shape in 2010 after Grain and Duncombe met in Kelowna and Roberts later joined them in Vancouver; the band initially performed under the name Run GMC before adopting The Washboard Union. Their debut album, The Washboard Union, was released in 2012 and produced by Garth Richardson and Bob Ezrin. In 2015 The Washboard Union recorded the EP In My Bones in Nashville with Trey Bruce, a step that clarified a sound that is both acoustic and contemporary. The trio followed with What We’re Made Of in 2018 and Everbound in 2020, while expanding their presence on the Canadian country scene and at numerous festivals. In 2023 The Washboard Union opened a new chapter with the single I Run on Country, released as part of a partnership with Universal Music Canada, and continues to pursue a formula that blends collective songwriting, roots textures and modern country.
